A look into the current resurgence of Folk music featuring interviews with record and film producer Joe Boyd, Folk band Rosewood Green and Leafcutter John.

*Joe Boyd

Joe Boyd was a leading British folk producer of the late 1960s. He talks about how folk music has changed in the last 40 years and why he decided to leave the industry to persue his dream of writing a book.

It is very gratifying and very interesting that some of the things we did long ago seem to be resonating with people today.

*Leafcutter John

London-based Leafcutter John (aka John Burton) has developed a strong musical identity using processed instrumental and environmental recordings. In this interview John talks about making connections with audiences and how he has found liberation through collaboration.

For me it’s about getting back in touch with that voice that you have and trying to express it clearly.

*Rosewood Green

The overall sound of Rosewood Green is that of the folk genre conventions being twisted just a little bit further with the use of slide guitar, lap steel, erratic time signatures and downright quirkiness.

There’s a lot to be said for the oral tradition of folk music…handing down songs and just learning them from people that you come accross.
