What is it?

ICA: The Show, is a bi-monthly video magazine conceived by the Institute of Contemporary Arts for the PlayStation ®Portable exploring the working methods, philosophies and styles of film makers, artists, designers and musicians. ICA: The Show puts interesting cultural content into the hands of an eager and discerning audience. Simple.

Who’s behind it?

The ICA is working with Sony and UK video collective Flat-e to create a truly unique experience. The ICA’s creative networks and cultural heritage combined with Sony’s ability to deliver video content on the move with the PlayStation ®Portable make an ideal relationship. Add to this Flat-e’s finely honed eye and patented ‘Culture Sieve’ and you’ve got an experience that will inform, educate and entertain the audience.

Who’s on board?

We have our hype filter firmly set in the on position to ensure that our wise audience only ever see lovely work made by lovely people. People like the Beck’s Futures artists, Jamie Lidell and Universal Everything. ICA: The Show offers them a platform to get their message across to a generation that deserves more than just movie trailers and ringtones.

Style and form

Profiles, interviews, previews and a sprinkling of Flat-e magic. Think of this as cultural television programming in an instant digital hit. Artists get to talk about things of real interest to them in a style and environment of their choosing. If this takes the form of an origami master-class round the back of a shady snooker club then so be it.

What people are saying

Sarah Weir, Executive Director, Arts Council England, London said:

The collaboration between the ICA and Sony PSP is absolutely unique. It will provide PSP users with an up to the minute guide to the best of contemporary culture as seen through the eyes of one of the world’s leading arts institutions. The partnership will allow the ICA to develop a new and lasting relationship with a community of visually aware young opinion formers.

David Lammy, Minister for Culture, Department of Culture, Media and Sport comments:

ICA: The Show could represent a pivotal development for culture in the UK, offering a generation of games players the opportunity to access high-quality information about the arts at the touch of a button. This is a fantastic example of recognised leaders in the field of arts and technology working together to grow new and diverse audiences for the arts.
